Imagine a house.  A beautiful house.  Even better - it's your dream house.

Inside that house is everything you ever wanted in a home.  Every amenity is there.  The style, the furnishings, the colors, all handpicked just for you.  Now, imagine taking a walk through every room, drinking in the wonder of it all, touching everything and imagine yourself living there.  When you get back to the entrance, you notice a note on the door.  You don't remember seeing it when you came in – but there it is.  You walk over and lean close enough to read it.

“Condemned,” it says.

What? How can that be?  Everything is so perfect. Its exactly the way you wanted it – there must be some mistake! You snatch the note off the door and hastily scan the fine print.  Fatal flaw in the foundation, it says.  The house is falling apart.

Self destruction is a  fatal flaw in the foundation of your life.  No matter how many lovely things you try to accomplish or how many remodels you perform, if you don't deal with self destructive behavior, eventually everything falls apart.

The worst part is, it's completely preventable.

Self destruction is a heinous form of sabotage because it comes from the inside and the root of self destruction is unforgiveness, usually toward ourselves.  Consciously or unconsciously, somewhere along the line, we believe we deserve to fail so we set traps to make sure it happens. Most of the time we don't even know we're doing it.

The first step in overcoming self destructive behavior is to acknowledge it.  If you keep hurting yourself, you have to ask yourself why? Why do I keep doing this?

In my own life, I was told I was damaged goods and would never be good enough.  I believed it.  I spent the majority of my life setting myself up to fail because I believed I was supposed to.  When I finally discovered the truth, I was able to change my behavior.

Once you know who you are and what you're really worth, nothing can stop you from fulfilling your destiny.  Especially yourself.
